I could have ambled slowly over — a way of hedging my bets — but I knew instinctively that everyone had a role to play in this little drama. Just then mine was to come up short, stand forlorn in their swirling backwash and let my pack fall to the ground in desperation. I played my part well; I saw the giddy satisfaction in my audience’s eyes while I mimicked despair.

Hi Kevin,
I am so glad you are back! I have missed you.
I guess I am not very religious, but this passage, perhaps weirdly, made me think of the following passages: “God is Love,” “Love thy Neighbor,” and “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” And, both knowing you and reading this, I know that they have.
Abrazos!
Thank you Jan. It is great to hear from my friend in Kentucky! Yes, life is not all it seems — and often much more.
Welcome back. We missed you.
Thank you Steve. A big hug to you and Leslie!
Thank you, Kevin, beautiful return. Having hitchhiked the southeast coast I can relate to the specialness of strangers in that place of openness and uncertainty, including the one within, that mysteriously steer me in the right direction. No doubt that God is a stranger, yet so intimately familiar.
Denise, your eloquence moves me. I hope we can play music together again. If you come to Buenos Aires, bring your flute! Abrazos!
Nice to connect with you again after awhile. Miss all Labatos and Footers.
Very glad to be reminded of connecting you with my men’s community, and that being a part of your journey and training into elder hood.
Thank you Michael. A big hug to you and Pat!
Gracias por compartir el arte de tu escritura y tu voz en la lectura.
Sí, recuerdo cómo disfrutaba de tu columna en el Herald.
Muy lindo leerte de nuevo.
Gracias Silvia! Un fuerte abrazo.
Hi Kevin!
So happy to hear from you via Little Epiphanies. I like your writing because I like your thinking. You say unexpected things, you see and feel things in a singular way. You notice gestures and atmospheres that, it seems, actually save your life. You seem comfortable in risky places. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your world!
Looking forward to more…
Susan
Susan: I’m not sure I am comfortable there… but I end up there anyway. Paying attention to the small things is what it’s all about. Abrazos!
